Dimitar Borissov graduated from the National School of Fine Arts, Sofia in 1971, and from the National Art Academy "Nikolay Pavlovich", Sofia, in the class of Prof. Velichko Minekov, Specialty "Sculpture" in 1985. He taught Sculpture at the National School of Applied Arts, Sofia 1992 - 1997. He was a teacher of sculpture and painting at the Humanitarian High School "Cyril and Methodius" in Burgas until 2011.  He taught sculpture and painting at the National School of Arts "Dobri Hristov" Varna until 2020. He is a member the Unio of Artists. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, some of which: International Biennale, Ravenna, Italy (1989), Quadrianale of Fine Arts, La Valletta, Malta (1995), International Biennale, Ravenna, Italy (1996), Biennale of humor and satire, Gabrovo (1995, 2011), Balkan quadrennial of painting "Myths and legends of my people", Stara Zagora (2016) and others. He has had 8 solo exhibitions: Beatles Center London, England (1990), Gallery "Hemus", Sofia (1991), Gallery "Red pony", Plovdiv (2005), Sozopol Gallery, Sozopol (2007), Solo exhibition in Elhovo (2009), Nesi Gallery, Burgas (2010), Gallery "Universem" in Varna (2011), Gallery "Graphite", Varna (2021). He is the author of numerous monuments and reliefs in an urban environment, some of which are: Stone relief on the facade of the Central National Museum, Yanitsa, Elhovo, in a creative team with Vezhdi Rashidov (1985), Monument to Vasil Levski in Novi Iskar ( 1986), sculptural reliefs in the interior of the Light Hotel, Sofia (2003), relief bronze portraits at the entrance to the Naval School, Varna (2006), etc. He has won many awards: 4th prize in the First Quadrianale of Arts, La Valletta, Malta (1995), Dante Alighieri Silver Medal, Ravenna, Italy (1996), St. Luke Award - Varna (2018). He has participated in charity exhibitions, national competitions in Bulgaria and abroad. His sculptures and paintings are owned by the National Art Gallery, a number of city art galleries, private collections in the country and abroad. He lives and works in Burgas.
