02. – 22. 09 2020
Opening reception – Wednesday, 02. 09. 2020, 6:30 PM
On September 2, 2020 Largo Art Gallery will start the autumn exhibition season with a collective show by the famous artistic couple Anna Tikhonova - Jordanova and Julian Jordanov. The exhibition is called "Lines of Destiny" and in it Anna will show graphics, and Julian will present graphics and paintings. For the second time in "Largo" people in Varna will have the opportunity to see a collaborative exhibition of the two world-renowned masters of graphics and exlibris. In 2018, their exhibition "Collision- Fusion" was part of the program of the third edition of the International ExLibris Competition Varna, organized by the gallery. The fourth edition of the competition was postponed to 2021, but the planned exhibition of Julian and Anna will be opened to the delight of their fans from Varna and the country.
In addition to graphics, Julian Jordanov will show six acrylic paintings to illustrate his multifaceted talent as a master of both graphic techniques and painting. His wife Anna Tikhonova will delight us with a few large format etchings from the new cycle she has been working on lately - "Shadows". In each of these works there is a brilliant interweaving of several images, complex compositions and at the same time the lightness and airiness of the works, so familiar and characteristic for her work. The Belarusian artist, as always, will enchant the audience with the lyricism and softness with which she creates her etchings, as well as with the unexpected look at seemingly ordinary topics.
There will also be two interesting series of etchings, dediated to the Zoriac signs. Julian and Anna created works that are exactly 16/16 cm in size and were created in the last year especially at the invitation of a large Chinese gallery. The project involves 12 artists from around the world to draw their interpretation of the eternal theme of the zodiac and how they define our character. The only woman invited to participate in the project is Anna Tikhonova, so she shares with a smile that she has the "honor and responsibility to present in the project not only Bulgarian and Belarusian graphics, but also the female part of humanity."
In tune with these series of "zodiacal" graphics, the two artists decided to title their joint performance in Varna "Lines of Destiny". Most people are influenced by a person's belonging to a certain zodiac sign. As soon as we learn under which zodiac sign a person is born, we begin to attribute to him, according to our own understandings, qualities and shortcomings, character traits and habits. We often think that the constellation under which we are born affects our destiny. The interpretations of the two artists revolve around this human weakness - to predict and predetermine.
What are the lines of our destinies, who determines them - we, chance or the stars, can we break away from stereotypes and refute them? How do Julian and Anna imagine the most characteristic feature of each zodiac sign? These are questions that you will be able to answer only if you visit the exhibition. The project with graphics dedicated to the zodiac signs will be presented in an exhibition in Chengdu, the capital of the southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan, by the end of 2020. Prior to its official presentation, none of the twelve participating authors can show reproductions of their works anywhere on the Internet. So, only those who visit the exhibition at Largo Art Gallery will have the opportunity to see the incredible works of the two famous graphic artists.
That is why we will be expecting to see you at the opening reception of the exhibition with the participation of the artists on Wednesday, September 2, at 6:30 pm at Largo Art Gallery in Varna, 8 Han Krum Street. The exhibition runs until September 22. See and read more about the artists in the "Authors" section of the site.
