On November 28, 2023, at 6:30 p.m., Lora Marinova's book "Memorial Plaque" will be presented in the Largo Gallery. Laura, known as a magnificent artist and long-time set designer of the Varna Opera House, has already published three collections of poems. "Memorial Plaque" is a biography of her father, the artist Yanko Marinov, in four volumes.
On Tuesday, November 28, the premiere of the first volume of the series will take place in the Largo Gallery, the publication of which is carried out by the Largo Gallery with the financial support of the Culture Fund of the Municipality of Varna.

The next three books of "Memorial Plaque", which are waiting to see the light of day, will make available the letters of the great sculptor Asen Peykov and other prominent Bulgarian artists to my father, will take us to Bella Italia, seen through his ecstatic eyes. They will add valuable details to the history of the Society of Varna Artists (1943-1947) and the Permanent Art Gallery (1950), as well as interesting touches to the images of the most outstanding artists in our city in those years. They will open the door of a studio where the old artist, staring at his past, writes and writes...

The reason for writing the book is the placing of a memorial plaque in 2014 at 5 "Ruse" street, where the artist's studio used to be. In the serious and in-depth work of Lora Marinova, not only the life and work of her father, but also the processes in the artistic life of her hometown in the second half of the last century are explored. The reliability of the facts is guaranteed by the documents in the State Archives - Varna, the Sofia, Varna and foreign press about the artist's art, his three memoirs, personal correspondence, diaries and numerous manuscripts from the personal archive, fragments of which generously illustrate the main text.

Yanko Marinov was born in 1907 in the village of Kilifarevo, Tarnovsko. From 1945 until his last days he lived and worked in Varna. Yanko Marinov is a significant name in the history of fine art in Bulgaria, founder and director of the Varna Art Gallery, one of the founders of the Varna group of the SBH and its first creative secretary, the progenitor of the miniature in Bulgarian art, a person who had a huge impact on artistic life in Varna in the last century. Winner of numerous awards for his participation in exhibitions in Italy, as well as the Varna Prize for overall creativity in 1997. Rested in Varna in 2001.
Lora Yankova Marinova was born in Varna in 1953. In 1977 she graduated from the National Art Academy in Sofia, majoring in "Scenography". Long-time scenographer and chief artist of the Varna Opera. Over 70 scenographic projects have been realized. Lora Marinova is the winner of the Varna Award (2017) and the Phoenix Award (2023) of the Varna State Opera. He has published three collections of poems - "Nocturne in C minor" (2016), "Dedication" (2017) and "65 hoops" (2017). Lives and works in Varna.
